Morningside College literary magazine publishes 2014 edition, awards prizes
The 2014 edition of Kiosk, Morningside College’s art and literary magazine, recognizes the work of 11 Morningside students or graduates whose writing, poetry, art and photography was awarded prizes by a three-person panel of judges.
The 2014 edition of Kiosk, Morningside College’s art and literary magazine, recognizes the work of 11 Morningside students or graduates whose writing, poetry, art and photography was awarded prizes by a three-person panel of judges.
In the literature category, winners included Hannah Hecht, a senior from Lansing, Kan., first place; Cameron Oakley, a graduating senior from Sioux City, second place; Victoria Anthony, a senior from Altoona, Iowa, third place; Katharine Klave, a senior from Le Mars, Iowa, honorable mention; and Kelci Teut, a 2013 Morningside graduate, honorable mention.
Winners in the art category included Samantha Hansen, a graduating senior from Ellicott City, Md., first place; Matthew Hadley, a senior from Sioux Center, Iowa, second place; Scott Martinson, a senior from Sioux City, third place; Alejandro Davalos, a senior from South Sioux City, Neb., honorable mention; Emilee Hardy, a senior from South Sioux City, Neb., honorable mention; and Tymmrie Rath, a senior from Sioux City, honorable mention.
Carly Hanson, a graduating senior English major from Sioux City, served as editor-in-chief for the 2014 Kiosk.
The panel that selected the winning entries included Christopher Marnach, a 2001 Morningside graduate and MFA candidate at Columbia College in Chicago; Gary Ford, an artist and retired art instructor from Sioux City; and Valerie Flanagan, a Sioux City art instructor. Kiosk faculty advisors included Stephen Coyne, English professor; John Kolbo, art instructor; and Terri McGaffin, associate professor of art.
Kiosk, which is edited and designed by Morningside students, has been published by the college’s English and art departments since 1938. The 2014 edition features submissions from more than 30 Morningside students, faculty and alumni. It can be viewed online at http://issuu.com/thekiosk/docs/v76_n1_kiosk.
