Morningside College literary magazine publishes 2015 edition, awards prizes
The 2015 edition of Kiosk, Morningside College’s art and literary magazine, recognizes the work of 10 Morningside students or graduates whose writing, poetry, art and photography was awarded prizes by a three-person panel of judges.
The 2015 edition of Kiosk, Morningside College’s art and literary magazine, recognizes the work of 10 Morningside students or graduates whose writing, poetry, art and photography was awarded prizes by a three-person panel of judges.
In the literature category, winners included Bethany Kluender, a graduating senior from Huxley, Iowa, first place; Sarah Munson, a 2014 Morningside graduate from South Sioux City, Neb., second place; Brayton Hagge, a sophomore from Fordyce, Neb., third place; and Ryan Ingalls, a graduating senior from Sioux City, honorable mention.
Winners in the art category included Michelle Vasquez, a junior from Sioux City, first place; Marcos Pichinte, a senior from Sioux City, second place; Samantha Hansen, a 2014 Morningside graduate from Ellicott City, Md., third place; Amber Burg, a junior from Murray, Neb., honorable mention; Jazmine Dirks, a 2014 Morningside graduate from Carroll, Iowa, honorable mention; and Anna Ryan, a junior from Omaha, Neb., honorable mention.
Hannah Hecht, a graduating senior English major from Leavenworth, Kan., served as editor-in-chief for the 2015 Kiosk.
The panel that selected the winning entries included Jim Reese, associate professor of English at Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D., and editor of Paddlefish, a literary magazine; Tim Young, associate creative director for Swanson Russell in Omaha, Neb.; and Joey Feaster, a photographer in Faribault, Minn.
Kiosk, which is edited and designed by Morningside students, has been published by the college’s English and art departments since 1938. Kiosk has received numerous awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and the Associated College Press. The 2015 Kiosk can be viewed online here.
