The 2016 edition of Kiosk, Morningside College’s art and literary magazine, recognizes the work of 12 Morningside students whose writing, poetry, art and photography received prizes from a three-person panel of judges.

The 2016 edition of Kiosk, Morningside College’s art and literary magazine, recognizes the work of 12 Morningside students whose writing, poetry, art and photography received prizes from a three-person panel of judges.

In the literature category, winners included Heather Eisele, a sophomore from Hastings, Neb., first place; Amy Carothers, a freshman from Cape Coral, Fla., second place; Jocelyn Wolff, a junior from South Sioux City, Neb., third place; and Sadie Shuck, a senior from Hinton, Iowa, honorable mention.

Winners in the art category included Anna Ryan, a senior from Omaha, Neb., first place; Shaina Le, a freshman from Sioux City, second place and honorable mention; Amber Burg, a senior from Murray, Neb., third place; Joelle Kruger, a junior from Woodward, Iowa, honorable mention; Nicole Loe, a senior from Baltic, S.D., honorable mention; Claire May-Patterson, a senior from Sioux City, honorable mention; Madeline Trott, a senior from Urbandale, Iowa, honorable mention; and Summer Wulf, a senior from Denison, Iowa, honorable mention.

The 2016 Kiosk features written and visual work from 42 Morningside students, faculty and alumni. Amanda Girres, a senior from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, served as editor-in-chief. Brianna Harding, a senior from Council Bluffs, Iowa, was visual editor. A total of 22 Morningside students were involved in the magazine’s production. Faculty advisers were Steve Coyne, professor of English; John Kolbo, instructor of art; and Terri McGaffin, associate professor of art.    

 The panel that selected the prizewinning entries included Catelin Drey, owner and operator of Shirley Chic photography studio in Sioux City; Patrick Hicks, writer-in-residence at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D.; and Kent McCuddin, creative director and brand strategist at Blue Earth Marketing in Sioux City.

Kiosk has been published by the college’s English and art departments since 1938. Kiosk has received numerous awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and the Associated College Press. The 2016 Kiosk can be viewed online here.
