Morningside College has planned a Martin Luther King Jr. Week of Service Monday, Jan. 18, through Friday, Jan. 22, to support Siouxland soldiers.
The activities are inspired by this quote from the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
Students will tie blankets, write thank-you cards and pack meals for veterans. The blankets, meals and cards will go to the nonprofit organization Support Siouxland Soldiers. Students also will participate in a poverty simulation.
Support Siouxland Soldiers is an organization that provides financial assistance for homeless or near homeless veterans, and a week’s worth of groceries for veterans and military families. The organization sends care packages to deployed troops and supports military families by organizing recreational events and providing children’s gifts during the holidays.
