Morningside College professor serves as officer in Asian studies organization
Greg P. Guelcher, professor of history at Morningside College, recently was re-elected to serve as executive secretary of the Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs at the organization’s annual meeting in St. Paul, Minn. This is his fifth three-year term.
The Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs provides a forum for scholars and teachers of Asian studies in the Midwest to exchange knowledge about the history and cultures of Asia.
As executive secretary, Guelcher manages the daily business and finances of the conference and helps plan and budget for the annual meeting. He also serves as the book review editor of the conference’s online, peer-reviewed journal, Studies on Asia.
The annual meeting took place at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, but Morningside College was listed as a co-sponsor because it built and hosted the meeting website. Nearly 300 registered participants attended the annual meeting
Guelcher has been teaching at Morningside College since 1996. He received his bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster in Ohio and his master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
