Morningside College professor to lecture on historic background of immigration controversy

Greg Guelcher, professor of history at Morningside College, will give a lecture on “The Historical Background to Today’s Immigration Controversy” at 7 p.m. Monday, April 24, in Weikert Auditorium in Buhler Rohlfs Hall, 1701 Morningside Ave.
The talk will explore key historical trends in U.S. immigration history in an attempt to shed light on today’s immigration controversy.
Guelcher has taught at Morningside College since 1996. He has a doctorate from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
The lecture is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Col. Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement in collaboration with the Morningside College History Department.
Morningside College opened the Col. Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement in 2015. The center focuses on activities related to civic awareness and citizenship on campus and in the Sioux City area. The center is affiliated with the Morningside College Department of Economics, Political Science and Sociology.
