Morningside College recently received a $150,000 grant from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust to purchase medical science equipment for the biology, chemistry and nursing departments.
Morningside will use the funding to modernize the equipment used in introductory human anatomy and human physiology labs and expand upper-level coursework in these areas. The college also will add equipment needed to prepare students for post-graduate education in medical research.
“This grant will support ongoing improvements in health science education at Morningside College, which has steadily grown and emerged as one of our foremost strengths as an institution,” said Anthony Kern, associate professor and chair of biology and chemistry at Morningside. “Our nursing and biology programs are focused primarily on the health science disciplines and account for nearly 25 percent of our yearly graduates.”
The Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust supports biomedical and scientific research, scholarships and programs addressing the educational and recreational needs of youth.
