Morningside College has received grants of $10,000 from Humanities Iowa and $10,000 from the Gilchrist Foundation to help fund the college’s spring Dimmitt Fellow resident professor, Lorenzo Sandoval from Des Moines.

Sandoval is a playwright, stage and film actor, college professor and community leader. During the spring semester, Sandoval will teach classes, deliver guest lectures, direct performances of plays he has written, and meet with social services, Hispanic and theater groups in the Sioux City area. He will arrive on the Morningside campus in January and live in an apartment in the college’s Dimmitt Residence Hall.

Humanities Iowa is an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities in Washington, D.C., and provides grants to non-profit organizations that further the humanities in the state.

The Gilchrist Foundation provides grants to pre-selected non-profit organizations, with a preference for the Sioux City and Chicago areas, to support wildlife and conservation, the arts and public broadcasting, and disaster relief.
