Morningside College recently received a grant from the Arts Midwest Touring Fund to bring “The Yellow Dress” to the campus and community.
“The Yellow Dress” is a one-woman play based on real-life experiences of women who have been victims of dating violence and sexual assault.
Two performances of the play will take place at Morningside College at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. Both performances are free and open to the public.
During the play, the main character, portrayed by Boston-based actress Stacy Fischer, describes her relationship, which began as young love, full of passion and promise, but ultimately ends in tragedy. The production allows the audience to learn about the cycle of dating violence and concludes with an interactive session between the actress, a male facilitator and the audience.
Other events associated with this grant include a screening of Cindy Waitt’s Emmy-nominated film “Private Violence” at Morningside College in February 2016 and the Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes awareness and fundraising event in April 2016.
