The Col. Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement at Morningside College has released results of its annual Morningside Poll, a public opinion survey that measures the attitudes of Iowa residents on a variety of public policy issues and on the performance of the state’s legislative and executive branches of government.
Detailed poll results are available online at www.morningside.edu/morningsidepoll.
“The Day Center’s mission includes nonpartisan efforts to encourage civic engagement and interest in the political process,” said Valerie Hennings, associate professor of political science at Morningside College and director of the Col. Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement. “Results from the Morningside Poll are a valuable information resource for anyone interested in Iowa politics and policies, including students, educators, researchers and community leaders.”
Dynata (formerly Research Now SSI) conducted the poll April 22 through May 2, 2019. It involved computer-assisted interviews over the telephone (landline and cell) with 774 Iowa adults in a final sampling designed to be representative of the state’s population. The margin of error for the poll results is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
Morningside College students, supervised by Hennings, analyzed the survey data from Dynata and produced factsheets and survey briefs posted on the Morningside Poll website.
Morningside College established the Col. Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement in 2015. The center focuses on activities related to civic awareness and citizenship on campus and the Sioux City area. The center is named in honor of the late Col. George “Bud” Day, a 1950 Morningside graduate and one of America’s most highly decorated servicemen.
