Morningside College’s student radio station, KMSC Fusion 93, received a Golden Microphone Award at the 76th Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Conference held recently in New York City.

Morningside College’s student radio station, KMSC Fusion 93, received a Golden Microphone Award at the 76th Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Conference held recently in New York City.

The award was presented in the “Best Sports Play-By-Play (Women’s Basketball)” category and recognized KMSC’s coverage of the championship game between Morningside and Concordia University during the 2015 NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Tournament in Sioux City. Morningside mass communication graduates Jennifer Theisen of Le Mars, Iowa, and Katie Copple of Dakota City, Neb., did the on air play-by-play. Senior mass communication major Paul Johnson of Jalingo, Nigeria, was the sideline reporter.

This is the fourth year in a row that KMSC has received a Golden Microphone Award at the IBS conference. KMSC staff members Zach Schoenecker, a sophomore from Belle Plaine, Minn., and Derrick Curtis, a freshman from Lincoln, Neb., attended the conference and accepted the award. Schoenecker also had an entry that was a finalist in the “Best Liner/Sweeper” category.

IBS is an organization of more than 1,000 non-profit, education-affiliated radio stations. It honors excellence in programming with the annual awards. IBS is a member of the National Association of Broadcasters.
