Morningside College students go “Into the Streets” for a day of community service
More than 900 Morningside College students, faculty and staff will leave the classroom to go “Into the Streets” for a morning of community service on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
More than 900 Morningside College students, faculty and staff will leave the classroom to go “Into the Streets” for a morning of community service on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Organized by Morningside’s chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), a national leadership honor society, Into the Streets gives student groups and teams an opportunity to volunteer at almost 90 different locations in the Sioux City area.
Participants will kick off the event at 8:15 a.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. From 8:30 a.m. to noon, they will perform a variety of service work – such as cleaning, painting, reading with children or helping with special projects – at agencies such as Camp Goodwill, UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s, and Food Bank of Siouxland.
Morningside students Tiffany Brasby of North Platte, Neb., and Dominique Swanson of Bloomfield, Neb., are coordinating the service project with a student committee that includes Kelsey Brenner of Schaller, Iowa; Natasha Hongsermeier of Phillips, Neb.; Jocelyn Wolff of South Sioux City, Neb.; Nicholas Yaneff of Sioux City; Mikala Cooper of Lincoln, Neb.; Jacque Carlson of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Jackie Bossman of Humboldt, S.D.; Jenni Theisen of Le Mars, Iowa; Tracy Gates of Escondido, Calif.; Alex Sullivan of Berthoud, Colo.; and McKenzie Anderson of Lincoln, Neb. Faculty member Patrick Blaine is assisting.
