More than 800 Morningside College students, faculty, and staff will leave the classroom to go “Into the Streets” for a morning of community service on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Organized by Morningside’s chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), a national leadership honor society, Into the Streets gives student groups and teams an opportunity to volunteer at almost 80 different locations in the Sioux City area.
The volunteers will receive their agency assignments at an 8 a.m. orientation meeting in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. From 8:30 a.m. to noon, they will perform a variety of service work – such as cleaning, painting, reading with children or helping with special projects – at agencies such as the Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation, Camp High Hopes and The Gospel Mission.
Morningside students Maria Bohling of Loveland, Colo., and Anna Christensen of Waconia, Minn., are coordinating the service project with a student committee that includes Ali Bachman of Fremont, Neb.; Kara Bentz of Humboldt, Iowa; Tiffany Brasby of Sioux City; Douglas Collins of Sioux City; Mikala Cooper of Lincoln, Neb.; Tasha Lechtenberg of O’Neill, Neb.; Nicole Loe of Baltic, S.D.; Jenni Theisen of Le Mars, Iowa; and Alyssa Turnquist of Alta, Iowa. Faculty member Greg Guelcher is assisting.
