Morningside College students to go “Into the Streets” for community service
More than 850 Morningside College students, faculty and staff will leave the classroom to go “Into the Streets” for a morning of community service on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
More than 850 Morningside College students, faculty and staff will leave the classroom to go “Into the Streets” for a morning of community service on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Organized by Morningside’s chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), a national leadership honor society, Into the Streets gives student groups and teams an opportunity to volunteer at over 80 different locations within the Sioux City area.
Participants will kick off the event at 8 a.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. From 8:30 a.m. to noon, they will accomplish a variety of service work – such as cleaning, painting, gardening, doing activities with residents in assisted living and more – at agencies such as Mary J. Treglia Community House, Crittenton Center’s Emergency Shelter, Crittenton’s Stella Sanford Child Development Center and Floyd Place Senior Living.
Morningside students Tracy Gates of Escondido, Calif., and Kelsey Brenner of Schaller, Iowa, are coordinating the service project with a student committee that includes Alex Allen of Crofton, Neb.; Nicole Langbein of Sac City, Iowa; Summer Beery of Anthon, Iowa; Ashton Schweers of Wayne, Neb.; Dylan Root of Murrieta, Calif.; Josh Doering of Hubbard, Iowa; Jackie Bossman of Humboldt, S.D.; Jocelyn Wolff of South Sioux City, Neb.; Katie Gubbels of Laurel, Neb.; Travis Metzger of Garretson, S.D.; Kate Mathes of Cherokee, Iowa; and Evelyn Edge of Genoa City, Wis. Faculty members Bruce Forbes and Leslie Werden are assisting.
