Morningside College will host a Drum Corps International competition at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, in Elwood Olsen Stadium, 3201 Peters Ave.

Drums Corps International is the nonprofit governing body for junior drum and bugle corps in the United States and Canada. Junior corps members are 21 or younger.

Corps participating in the competition include the Cavaliers from Rosemont, Ill.; the Colts from Dubuque, Iowa; the Oregon Crusaders from Portland, Ore.; the Santa Clara Vanguard from Santa Clara, Calif.; and the Troopers from Casper, Wyo.

Gates open at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required to attend the event. To get tickets, go to dci2016-morningsidecollege.eventbrite.com.

There is also an educational “side-by-side” clinic with the six-time Drum Corps International World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard from 1 to 5 p.m. July 13 in the stadium.  The clinic cost is $20, and it is open to all area youth entering high school through college.  Registration is available on the same website, and the registration deadline for the clinic is July 8.

Other productions scheduled for the summer season of the Betty Ling Tsang Fine Arts Series at Morningside College include the children’s musical “OOOPS” on July 15 and 16 and the musical revue “The Taffetas” on Aug. 5 and 6. All performances are free and open to the public.
