Morningside College is one of 26 Iowa private colleges and universities that will host high school seniors and juniors and their parents during Iowa Private College Week, August 4-8.

Steph Peters, director of admissions at Morningside, said Iowa Private College Week gives prospective students and their families a week-long opportunity to make coordinated visits to Iowa’s private, non-profit college campuses.

At Morningside, two sessions daily at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. will offer campus tours, information about academics and college life, and opportunities to meet current students and faculty.

Peters added that families also will learn how they are more likely to find significant financial aid at Iowa’s private colleges and universities. For example, Peters noted that the percentage of students receiving Pell grants at Iowa private colleges is almost double that of students at the public universities.

“This is real money for families,” Peters said. “The maximum Pell grant for the upcoming year is $5,730.  That makes a huge difference, especially since Iowa students who qualify for federal Pell grants can also qualify for the state-funded Iowa Tuition Grant, which is a maximum of another $4,550.  Combined, that can be more than $10,000 in financial aid.”

Iowa Private College Week is sponsored by the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.  High school students interested in registering for Iowa Private College Week at Morningside can contact the college’s admissions office at 712-274-5511 or go directly to the Iowa Private College Week page.
