Morningside College is one of 25 Iowa private colleges and universities that will host high school seniors and juniors and their parents during Iowa Private College Week, Aug. 1-5.

Steph Peters, director of admissions at Morningside, said Iowa Private College Week gives prospective students and their families a week-long opportunity to make coordinated visits to Iowa’s private, non-profit college campuses.

At Morningside, sessions will begin daily at 1:30 p.m. and include campus tours, information about academics and college life, and opportunities to meet current students and faculty. Athletes and performing arts students are invited to come early to eat lunch with coaches and music directors at 12:45 p.m.

Peters said families will learn during the week how they are more likely to find significant financial aid at Iowa’s private colleges and universities.

“Iowa Tuition Grants are only available to Iowa residents enrolled at eligible Iowa private colleges and universities,” Peters said. “The maximum Iowa Tuition Grant is $5,650. If a student received both an Iowa Tuition Grant and a federal Pell Grant, they could receive over $11,000 per year in financial aid to attend one of Iowa’s private colleges.”

And more students receive Pell grants at Iowa private colleges than at the public universities.

“This is real money for families,” Peters said.

Iowa Private College Week is sponsored by the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.  High school students interested in registering for Iowa Private College Week at Morningside can contact the college’s admissions office at 712-274-5511 or go directly to the website here.
