Morningside College will present two honorary degrees in addition to more than 280 undergraduate degrees at its 120th spring commencement exercises at 2 p.m. May 12 on the campus lawn in front of the Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center. Morningside will award honorary degrees to Richard A. Waller, a longtime banking executive and community leader in the Sioux City area, and Katherine M. Whatley, a senior vice president at the Council of Independent Colleges in Washington, D.C.

Morningside College will present two honorary degrees in addition to more than 280 undergraduate degrees at its 120th spring commencement exercises at 2 p.m. May 12 on the campus lawn in front of the Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center.

Morningside will award honorary degrees to Richard A. Waller, a longtime banking executive and community leader in the Sioux City area, and Katherine M. Whatley, a senior vice president at the Council of Independent Colleges in Washington, D.C. Waller and Whatley also are featured speakers for the commencement ceremony.

Baccalaureate service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. May 12 in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. The Rev. Dr. Bruce D. Forbes, the Arthur L. Bunch professor of religious studies at Morningside, will deliver the baccalaureate sermon.

Baccalaureate and commencement ceremonies are open to the public.

Waller is receiving an honorary degree in recognition of his many years of service on the Morningside College Board of Directors, as well as his active participation in many Sioux City area nonprofit, community and civic organizations.

Whatley is receiving an honorary degree in recognition of her career in higher education and her commitment to helping colleges and universities improve their leadership expertise and administrative performance.
