Alumnus Tim Orwig, who wrote “Morningside College: A Centennial History” and is updating the book for the college’s 125th anniversary, has challenged the campus community to write down memories of Morningside College. Writers are encouraged to think about all of the changes in the past 25 years – technology, new buildings, new programs, campus achievements, humorous incidents, etc. Some more specific examples include the Palmer Student Research Symposium, Into the Streets campuswide service day, presidential campaigns, the campus response to 9/11 and other world events, the new athletic conference and teams, and the expansion of study abroad.
This event is part of the Friday is Writing Day (FIWD) series at Morningside College. FIWD meets throughout the fall semester, usually from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Fridays. The program, which has been in existence for over 27 years, is designed to feature writers and their works, from journals to published pieces.
Writers of all types from the campus and community read their work, followed by informal discussions of the writing. All of the sessions are free and open to the public. Participants are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch or purchase lunch in the college cafeteria.
Additional upcoming events for FIWD include:

Nov. 13: The Art of Writing Personal Statements for Graduate School, Scholarships and Study Abroad. Students and faculty read from their personal statements and share advice. Noon, Hickman Dining Room, Olsen Student Center.
