Morningside to host Drum Corps International clinic and competition
Morningside College will host a Drum Corps International clinic and competition on Tuesday, July 10, in Elwood Olsen Stadium.
Morningside College will host a Drum Corps International competition at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, in Elwood Olsen Stadium, 3201 Peters Ave.
Drums Corps International is the nonprofit governing body for junior drum and bugle corps in the United States and Canada. Junior corps members are 21 or younger.
Corps participating in the competition include the Blue Stars from La Crosse, Wis.; Mandarins from Sacramento, Calif.; Colts from Dubuque, Iowa; Genesis from Austin, Texas; River City Rhythm from Monticello, Minn.; and Colt Cadets from Dubuque.
Gates open at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required to attend the event. To get tickets, go online to morningside.edu/DCI2018.
There is also an educational “side-by-side” clinic with the Drum Corps International world finalist Blue Stars from 1 to 5 p.m. July 10 in the stadium. The clinic cost is $20, and it is open to all area youth entering high school through college. To register, go to the same website and sign up for the “Summer Music Academy.” The registration deadline for the clinic is Monday, July 9.
Other productions scheduled for the Betty Ling Tsang Summer Performance Series at Morningside College include the children’s musical “Ready…Set…Go!” on July 13 and 14 and the Catalyst Collective Showcase on July 26.
