Morningside University receives $1 million to establish animal science & food safety lab
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Morningside University is honored to announce a generous $1 million gift from Siouxland community leader Regina Roth to establish a state-of-the-art Animal Science and Food Safety Lab on campus. This new facility will serve as a center for innovative research and education, equipping students with the tools and knowledge to tackle critical challenges in animal science and food safety.
The lab will feature cutting-edge technology to advance research and provide hands-on learning experiences, preparing students for leadership roles in industries essential to community well-being and global food system sustainability. It will be located within the Walker Science Center and utilized by students in the Regina Roth Applied Agricultural and Food Studies Department as well as those involved in the sciences.
University President Dr. Albert Mosley praised Regina Roth’s visionary leadership and generosity, stating, “Regina exemplifies exceptional business acumen and an unwavering dedication to community development. Her contributions to the Siouxland community have left a lasting legacy of innovation and progress. This transformative gift reflects her strong commitment to advancing education and improving lives. With agriculture and food production being two of Siouxland’s largest industries, the Regina Roth Applied Ag and Food Studies Department at Morningside will play a pivotal role in preparing students to meet the growing demands of these fields, ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for the region.”
Construction on the Regina Roth Animal Science and Food Safety Lab is set to begin in 2025, further enhancing the robust programs and resources available within the Regina Roth Applied Agricultural and Food Studies Department and the sciences including the recently announced animal science minor and Mside Beef programs.
