Morningside was tabbed the favorite in the GPAC Baseball Coaches’ Preseason Poll.

Morningside is the preseason favorite in the 2017 GPAC baseball race after the Mustangs were picked first in the GPAC Baseball Coaches’ Preseason Poll.

The Mustangs received 77 points to edge Midland by one point in the preseason poll. Morningside received six of the 10 first place votes and Midland received the other four.

Morningside returns seven starters and seven of its top 10 pitchers from a team that finished 44-16 last season to set a school record for victories. The Mustangs won the GPAC post season tournament championship to advance to the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round.

Morningside, which had a 3-1 record in an abbreviated fall schedule, will play its 2017 opener on Feb. 18 with a noon doubleheader against Benedictine in Atchison, Kan.
