Mustang dance team 2nd at NAIA North Qualifier
Morningside’s dance team finished as the runner-up at the NAIA Competitive Cheer & Dance North Qualifying Competition.
Morningside finished second in dance and third in cheer at the 2106 NAIA Competitive Cheer & Dance North Qualifying Competition held Feb. 26 in Fremont, Neb.
Midland won both competitions to qualify for the 2016 NAIA Competitive Cheer & Dance National Invitational to be held March 11-12 in Davenport, Iowa. The winners from each of the nation’s four regionals earned automatic berths in the NAIA National Invitational. The remaining eight spots for both cheer and dance will be filled with at-large berths.
Morningside finished with a final score of 109.38 to finish as the runner-up behind Midland (113.14) in the seven-team dance competition. Briar Cliff finished third with a score of 108.18, followed by Grand View, 102.25; Hastings, 99.18; Concordia, 90.33; and Doane, 87.68.
The Mustangs used a strong showing with a second place showing in the final round after they were in third place after the preliminary round.
The Mustangs were second in the preliminary round and fourth in the final round to finish third in the final cheer standings.
Midland won the cheer competition with a score of 91.60, followed by MidAmerica Nazarene, 82.32; Morningside, 77.05; Grand View, 76.40; and Doane, 70.07.
