Morningside’s men’s golf team defended its home course by winning the team title at Monday’s Morningside Invitational held at Whispering Creek Golf Club.
The Mustangs carded a 297 for a 12-stroke winning margin over runner-up Northwestern. It was the first tournament title of the season for the Mustangs, who had a near miss earlier in the season when they finished second behind Northwestern by one stroke at the two-day Siouxland Invitational.
Morningside’s Zach Ward fired a two-under par 70 to take individual medalist honors by a one-stroke margin over runner-up Justin Kraft of Northwestern.
All four Mustang counting scores were in the 70s. Ferran Cortilla and Cody Holck each carded two-over par 74s and Ben Peterson completed the Mustangs’ team score with a 79.
Cam Kuchel shot an 80 to lead the Mustangs’ junior varsity team, which finished with a 338.
The Mustangs will compete in the Doane Preview tournament on Monday, Sept. 28, in Lincoln, Neb.
