Mustang golfers win second straight tourney
Morningside won its second golf tournament in a row with a victory at Tuesday’s Northwestern Invite.
Morningside’s men’s golf team won its second tournament title in a row with a five-stroke victory margin over runner-up Hastings at Tuesday’s Northwestern Invite in Orange City, Iowa.
The Mustangs, the victors at last week’s Morningside/Briar Cliff Invitational, carded a team score of 295 and had three of the top eight individual scores in the tournament field.
Matt Young led the way with a two-under par 69 to win medalist honors by a four-stroke cushion over Jordan Reinders of Northwestern and the Hastings duo of Collin Tedesco and Cody Vance who all had 73’s.
Morningside’s Cole Schwarz and Matt Pitts also finished high on the individual leader board. Schwarz fired a 74 for fifth place, while Pitts finished eighth with a 75. The Mustangs completed their team score with 77’s from Christian Nohr and Keegan Bak.
Morningside’s junior varsity team finished seventh in the 10-team field with a 320 and had two players break 80 with a 78 from Alex O’Neill and a 79 from Pablo Lavin.
Morningside will compete in the AIB College of Business Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Panora, Iowa.
