Mustang harriers run 3rd at GPAC Cross Country Championships
Morningside finished third in both the men’s and women’s divisions of the 2015 GPAC Cross Country Championships.
Morningside finished third in both the men’s and women’s divisions at the 2015 GPAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 7, in Crete, Neb.
Morningside’s third place finish in the men’s division ended the Mustangs’ two-year reign as GPAC champions.
Nebraska Wesleyan won the men’s GPAC title with 45 points, while Northwestern (74 points) nudged Morningside (79) in a tight race for second place.
The Mustangs also came up just short in a tight battle for runner-up honors in the women’s race, where Dordt captured the GPAC crown with 44 points, followed by Nebraska Wesleyan with 76 and Morningside with 77.
Morningside had three of the top 12 finishers in the women’s race. Tiffany Shepherd led the way with a time of 18:50.47 over the 5k course to finish in fourth place behind a trio of Dordt runners.
The Mustangs’ Michelle Mumm finished ninth with a time of 18:59.31 and Morgan Applegarth was 12th with a time of 19:07.73.
Mark Abrams had the top individual performance for the Mustang men with the third place time of 25:36.10 over the 8k course.
Alex Janssen also finished in the top 10 with the ninth place time of 26:26.18. Jacob Scott was the Mustangs’ next finisher with a time of 26:55.0 for 18th place.
