Mustang spikers bow out against Park
Morningside lost 3-0 against seventh-ranked Park in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest/Great Plains/Kansas Conference Men’s Volleyball Tournament.
Seventh-ranked Park’s blocking ability nullified Morningside’s attack when the Pirates swept the Mustangs 25-19, 25-19, 25-19 in Friday’s quarterfinals of the American Midwest/Great Plains/Kansas Conference Men’s Volleyball Tournament in St. Louis, Mo.
The Pirates had 14 blocks in the three-set contest while holding the Mustangs to a negative .021 hitting percentage.
Park improved its record to 15-9 and will face No. 1-ranked Missouri Baptist in Saturday’s semifinals.
Morningside closed out the campaign with a 9-18 record.
Jackson Presha paced the Mustangs’ attack with nine kills, followed by Oscar Alvarez Cancel with seven terminations. The two combined for 16 of the Mustangs’ 22 kills.
Morningside’s Jacob Loberg topped all performers with 15 digs. Alvarez Cancel was next on the Mustangs with five digs, followed by Presha and Caden Toben with four.
Toben led the Mustangs with 18 assists, while Presha, Brett Kies and Cal Zeb Roberson all had ace serves.
