Mustang Spikers Upset Concordia University
Morningside Women’s Volleyball Dominate Concordia University 3-1 on Thursday, Sept. 13.
Coming off of a 3-0 win against Doane University on Tuesday, the Mustangs were not shy about playing physical very early on in the first set. That eagerness to win showed in the first set with the Mustangs winning 25-17.
The second set proved no easy feat with the Mustangs and Bulldogs going back to back for much of the set. The Mustang’s enthusiasm kept them ahead to pull out a second set win of 25-15. Junior Brittni Olson tallied 7 kills while junior Emma Gerber and sophomore Krista Zenk both shared 6 kills apiece. Leading the Mustangs with 10 digs each are Krista Zenk and freshman Kayla Harris after the first two sets.
After a neck and neck third set, Concordia pulls away to win the set 25-23. Sophomore Caitlin Makovicka totaled 11 kills with Brittni Olson and Emma Gerber close behind with 9 kills each. Kayla Harris has an astounding 17 digs to finish the first three sets.
The fourth and final set had everyone on the court and in the stands on their feet with a hard-sought win by Morningside. The women’s volleyball team won the final set 25-23. Caitlin Makovicka topped the Mustangs off with 16 kills and Krista Zenk finished with 24 digs with Kayla Harris trailing behind her with 22 digs and junior Callie Alberico with 18.
