Mustang women finish 3rd at final GPAC Qualiifer tourney
Morningside finished third in the final GPAC women’s golf standings after a third place finish at GPAC Qualifier #4.
Morningside wrapped up its women’s golf season with a third place finish at GPAC Qualifier #4 held Monday at Fox Run in Yankton, S.D.
The Mustangs carded a team score of 335 to finish nine strokes out of second place behind Northwestern. The 335 was the Mustangs’ top score of the spring season and every player in the Mustangs’ lineup shot their individual low scores of the spring campaign.
Senior Kelsey Nelson led the Mustangs with an 80 in her collegiate finale to finish fifth in the individual standings. Jeicy Rivas Plata was next with an 83, followed by Caitlin Fieselman with an 85 and Cameron Oakley with an 87.
Morningside also finished third in the final conference standings determined by the combined scoring at the four GPAC Qualifier tourneys during the 2013-14 campaign. The Mustangs had a four-tournament total of 1,419 strokes to finish behind Northwestern (1,367) and GPAC champion Dakota Wesleyan (1,308).
Nelson was the Mustangs’ top individual finisher in the combined scoring with a four-tourney total of 348 strokes for 13th place. Rivas Plata and Oakley were right behind in 14th and 15th place with scores of 353 and 356, respectively.
