Morningside’s women’s golf team won the Midland/College of Saint Mary Fall Invite for its third straight tournament championship.

Morningside College’s women’s golf team reigned at the two-day Midland University/College of Saint Mary Fall Invite to capture its third tournament championship in a row.

The Mustangs carded a score of 674 for a nine-stroke victory margin over runner-up Briar Cliff to add to their haul of tournament titles after recently winning the Briar Cliff Lila Frommelt Fall Classic and the Northwestern Red Raider Fall Invite.

Morningside shot a 348 in Tuesday’s opening round at Fremont Golf Club in Fremont, Neb., to open a three-stroke lead over Briar Cliff. The Mustangs finished with a 326 in Wednesday’s second round at Miracle Hill Golf Course in Omaha, Neb.

Morningside had four players finish among the top 14 individuals. Anjana Cordes, a freshman from Bad Vilbel, Germany, led the way with rounds of 84 and 81 to finish in fourth place with a 165. Myla Brown, a sophomore from Sioux Falls, S.D., finished right behind in fifth place with scores of 81 and 85 for a 166.

Mikaela Livengood, a sophomore from Eagle Grove, Iowa, rebounded from an opening round 94 with a second round 79 to match Peru State’s Jessica Weickert and Mount Marty’s Logan Wagner for the top score in the field. Livengood finished in 13th place with a 173.

Nathalie Sanchez, a junior from Bellevue, Neb., also had a strong bounce back when she followed an opening round 93 with an 81.

Morningside will compete in GPAC Qualifier #1 on Oct. 3 and 4 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
