A strong national tournament showing vaulted the Mustangs’ volleyball team to No. 16 in the NAIA post-season poll.

Morningside is ranked 16th in the nation in the NAIA Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Post-Season Top 25 Poll released on Dec. 6.

The Mustangs, who were unranked in the final regular season poll, finished the season with a record of 20-14 and advanced from pool play into the 16-team single-elimination bracket at last week’s NAIA Volleyball National Championship tournament for the first time in school history. The Mustangs went 2-1 in their pool with a 3-0 victory against ninth-ranked Columbia College, a 3-1 loss against No. 8 Grand View University and a 3-0 triumph against Tabor College before they suffered a 3-0 setback against No. 7 Park University in the single-elimination bracket.

Morningside is one of five teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) ranked in the NAIA Post-Season Top 25. Aside from Morningside, Dordt College is ranked second, Hastings College is ninth, Northwestern College is 11th and Midland University is 13th.
