Mustangs 9th in final Directors’ Cup standings
Morningside finished ninth in the final 2013-14 NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings.
Morningside College finished in ninth place in the final 2013-14 NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings with 596.5 total points. Points are awarded based on a team’s finish at the NAIA National Championship events.
Morningside finished just one point out of eighth place behind Indiana Tech University.
The Mustangs, who were in fourth place after the completion of the fall and winter sports seasons, scored points in four spring sports. Morningside finished 17th in women’s tennis, 26th in women’s track & field, 27th in men’s track & field, and 31st in softball.
The Mustangs finished fifth in women’s basketball, ninth in wrestling, 13th in women’s swimming, 14th in men’s swimming, 17th in men’s basketball, and 20th in women’s indoor track & field during the winter sports season.
Morningside finished third in football and 12th in men’s cross country during the fall.
Morningside led all schools from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). The only other school from the GPAC in the final 2013-14 top 25 is Hastings College in 21st place with 483.5 points.
Oklahoma Baptist University scored won the 2013-14 NAIA Learfield Sports Director’s Cup with 907.5 points to win the award for the second year in a row. Oklahoma City University finished second with 763.25 points, followed by Lindsey Wilson College with 756 points. The rest of the top 10 is comprised of Embry-Riddle University with 748.5 points, Wayland Baptist University with 648.5, Concordia University (Calif.) with 608.5, Indiana Tech University with 597.5, Morningside with 596.5, and College of Idaho with 593.5.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 12 sports – six women’s and six men’s.
