Mustangs announce men’s track recruits
Morningside track & field and cross country head coach David Nash announced the names of 13 high school recruits who will join the Mustangs.
Morningside College track & field and cross country head coach David Nash announced the names of 13 high school recruits who will join the Mustangs starting with the 2014-15 academic year.
The recruits are:
James Farnan, a sprinter from Bellevue, Neb. Farnan is a 2014 graduate of Omaha Gross Catholic High School. He finished fourth in the 400-meters with a time of 53.37 seconds and anchored Omaha Gross Catholic to a third place finish in the 400-meter relay and a fourth place finish in the 1600-meter relay at his Class B district meet.
Gage Fenton, a sprinter-long jumper from Keokuk, Iowa. Fenton is a 2014 graduate of Keokuk High School, where he was a Class 3A state qualifier in the long jump and 400-meters this past season.
He was a 3A state qualifier in the 100-meters, long jump, and 400-meter relay as a junior and a state qualifier in the 800-meter relay as a sophomore.
Jacob Green, a middle distance runner from Sioux Falls, S.D. Green is a 2014 graduate of Sioux Falls Washington High School, where he ran the second leg for the school’s Class AA state championship 1600-meter sprint medley relay team this past season. He also helped lead Washington to a third place finish in the 1600-meter relay and an eighth place finish in the 3200-meter relay.
Green placed eighth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:01.81 at the Class AA state meet as a junior. He was also a state qualifier in the 1600-meters and helped lead Washington to a runner-up finish in the 1600-meter relay and a third place finish in the 3200-meter relay. He was an AA state qualifier in the 800-meters as a sophomore.
Reece Jackson, a hurdler-high jumper from Marcus, Iowa. Jackson is a 2014 graduate of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn High School, where he placed eighth in the Class 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.76 seconds at this year’s Class 1A state meet. Jackson also competed in the shuttle hurdle relay at the state meet and was a state qualifier in the 110-meter hurdles and the shuttle hurdle relay as a junior.
Alex Janssen, a distance runner from Crofton, Neb. Janssen is a 2014 graduate of Crofton High School, where he was a five-time state place winner in individual events during his career. This past season he finished third in the 3200-meters with a time of 10:00.68 and fourth in the 1600-meters with a time of 4:33.43 at the Class C state meet.
He was the Class C state runner-up in the 1600-meters with a time of 4:34.94 and placed fourth in the 3200-meters with a time of 10:02.03 as a junior. Janssen finished seventh in the 3200-meters with a time of 10:21.64 at the Class C state meet as a sophomore.
Janssen also competed in cross country and helped lead Crofton to Nebraska’s 2013 Class D state championship. He finished sixth in the individual standings with a time of 17:16.9.
Jason Kenny, a distance runner from Schaller, Iowa. Kenny is a 2014 graduate of Ridge View High School, where he was a Class 2A state qualifier in the 1600 and 3200-meter relays this past season. He was also a state qualifier in the 1600-meter relay as a junior.
Kenny finished 48th with a time of 17:27 at the Class 2A state cross country meet as a senior and 38th with a time of 17:07 as a junior.
Jacob Klein, a distance runner from Fremont, Neb. Klein is a 2014 graduate of Fremont High School, where he placed eighth in the 3200-meters with a time of 9:37.61 at this year’s Nebraska Class A state meet.
He was also a cross country standout and finished 14th with a time of 16:29.5 to help lead Fremont to a runner-up finish in the Class A team standings at this past season’s state meet.
Austin Langston, a discus thrower from Sioux City. Langston is a 2014 graduate of Sioux City North High School, where he had a third place finish at this year’s Class 4A state meet with a distance of 164-1.
He was a Class 4A state qualifier as a junior.
Grant Lehman, a middle distance runner, high jumper, and hurdler from Forest City High School. Lehman is a 2014 graduate of Forest City High School and placed seventh in the Class 2A high jump with a height of 6-4 at this year’s state meet. He also finished 11th in the 2A 400-meters with a time of 50.85 seconds and was a state qualifier in the 3200-meter and distance medley relays.
His best finish at the state meet came as a junior when he cleared 6-6 for third place in the Class 2A high jump. Lehman also anchored Forest City to a fifth place finish in the 3200-meter relay and was a state qualifier in the 400-meters and the 1600-meter relay during his junior campaign.
Jesse Nitzschke, a distance runner from Le Mars, Iowa. Nitzschke is a 2014 graduate of Le Mars Community High School, where his top times this past season were 5:02.93 in the 1600-meters and 10:34.18 in the 3200-meters.
Jacob Scott, a distance runner from Rodney, Iowa. Scott is a 2014 graduate of Sioux City East High School, where he was a Class 4A state qualifier in the 3200-meters this past season.
Scott was also a member of the Black Raiders’ cross country team and finished 22nd with a time of 16:00.7 at the Class 4A state meet as a senior.
Colton Tracy, a discus thrower from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Tracy is a 2014 graduate of Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln High School. He was this year’s Class 4A state runner-up with a distance of 166-5 at the state meet.
He placed fifth with a distance of 160-9 at the 4A state meet as a junior and finished 14th with a distance of 132-8 at the state meet as a sophomore.
Jake Weber, a distance runner from Dunlap, Iowa. Weber is a 2014 graduate of Boyer Valley Community High School, where he finished eighth in the Class 1A 3200-meters with a time of 10:11.47 at this year’s state meet.
He finished 11th in the 3200-meters with a time of 10:19.05 and 15th in the 1600-meters with a time of 4:47.92 at the Class 1A state meet during his junior campaign.
Weber also competed in cross country and finished 56th with a time of 18:08.6 at this past season’s Class 1A state meet.
