Mustangs announce women’s golf recruits
Morningside head golf coach Todd Sapp announced the names of seven high school recruits who will join the team next year.
Morningside head golf coach Todd Sapp announced the names of six high school recruits who will join the Mustangs’ women’s team for the 2015-16 season.
The recruits are:
Cheyanne Becker of Waukee, Iowa. Becker is a senior at Waukee Community High School, where she has helped lead the team to three consecutive Class 5A state championships. Becker finished in a tie for 17th place in the individual standings at the 2014 state tournament with rounds of 89 and 87 for a 176. She qualified for the state meet as an individual after she finished fifth at her regional tournament with an 82 for her low 18-hole score of the season. Becker, whose top nine-hole score was a 38, had a 45.5-stroke scoring average per nine holes during her junior campaign.
She had a 48.3-stroke scoring average as a sophomore.
Shelby Brennecke of Marshalltown, Iowa. Brennecke is a senior at Marshalltown High School, where she had a nine-hole scoring average of 55.7 as a junior. Her best 18-hole score was a 95 at Willow Creek Golf Course in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mikaela Livengood of Eagle Grove, Iowa. Livengood is a senior at Clarion-Goldfield High School, where she will be a four-year varsity letterwinner. Livengood is a two-time second-team Class 3A all-stater and a two-time first-team All-North Central Conference selection. She finished 14th in the individual standings at the 2014 Class 3A state tourney with rounds of 92 and 83 for a 175 total. She had a nine-hole scoring average of 46.3 with a low nine-hole score of 42 and a low 18-hole score of 82.
As a sophomore, Livengood had a nine-hole scoring average of 47.0 with a low nine hole score of 42 and a low 18-hole score of 88 at the Class 3A state tournament. Her 88 came at the Class 3A state tournament, where she finished 12th in the individual standings. She was a regional tournament qualifier as a freshman.
Livengood was named the 2013 and 2014 Iowa Junior PGA Player of the Year for girls in the 16-18 age group.
Alexandra Mankle of Milford, Iowa. Mankle is a senior at Okoboji Community High School, where she is a three-time Siouxland Conference champion and a three-time regional tournament champion. She finished sixth in the individual standings at this past season’s Class 3A state tournament with rounds of 86 and 80 for a 166. Mankle earned first-team all-state honors and had a nine-hole scoring average of 41.5 during the 2014 season. She had a low nine-hole score of 36 and a low 18-hole score of 75.
Mankle was also a first-team all-stater as a sophomore when she had a nine-hole scoring average of 42.7 with a low nine-hole score of 39 and a low 18-hole score of 77. She finished fifth in the individual standings at the state tournament. Mankle had a seventh place finish at the state tournament and was a second-team all-stater as a freshman when she had a nine-hole scoring average of 42.0.
Kaitlynn McShane of Bennington, Neb. McShane is a senior at Bennington High School, where she is a four-year varsity letterwinner and two-year team captain. This past season she finished fifth at her district tournament with a 96 to help Bennington qualify for the Class B state tournament. McShane finished in a tie for 23rd place in the individual standings at the state tournament with rounds of 98 and 94 for a 192. She finished sixth in the individual standings at this past season’s Eastern Midlands Conference tournament. McShane had an 18-hole scoring average of 95. Her best 18-hole score was an 86 and her top nine-hole score was a 42.
Jill Pettit of Carroll, Iowa. Pettit is a senior at Carroll High School, where she will be a four-year varsity letter winner. She had a nine-hole scoring average of 53.3 strokes and was a runner-up medalist once last season.
Pettit had a career-best 49.8-stroke scoring average as a sophomore. She was a medalist once, a runner-up medalist twice, and finished third at the IKM/Manning Invitational. Pettit had a 51.7-stroke scoring average as a freshman. She was a medalist once, a runner-up medalist once, and finished sixth at the Carroll Kuemper Invitational.
Elizabeth Thies of Green Isle, Minn. Thies is a senior at Sibley East High School, where she will be a five-year varsity letterwinner. She had an 18-hole scoring average of 92 and was named to the Minnesota River All-Conference team during her junior campaign.
Thies, a four-time section tournament qualifier, earned honorable mention all-conference recognition in her first three varsity seasons.
