Mustang season ends in GPAC men’s tennis semifinals
Morningside went 1-1 at the GPAC Men’s Tennis Tournament.
Morningside defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 5-0 in Friday morning’s GPAC men’s tennis quarterfinals to set up a semifinal round contest against Doane.
The win against Nebraska Wesleyan leveled the Mustangs’ record at 9-9 and put them at the .500 mark for the first time since March 3 when a 6-3 victory against Regis put their record at 3-3.
The Mustangs’ season ended later in the day when they suffered a 5-1 loss against Doane to finish the campaign at 9-10.
The Mustangs opened a 3-0 lead against the Prairie Wolves after the completion of doubles play and then scored the deciding singles victories from Akshay Krishna and Alex Struck.
Krishna defeated Andrew Finkner 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth flight to put his season’s record at 10-10, while Struck improved his singles record to a team leading 13-6 with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing of Jordan Pieper in the fifth flight.
Morningside’s win in the Doane dual came at No. 2 doubles, where Krishna and Jordan Betts combined for an 8-3 triumph against Tyler Johnson and Joe Lloyd.
