Mustangs place three on All-GPAC Men’s Golf Team
Morningside had three players tabbed to the 2015-16 All-GPAC Men’s Golf Team.
Ferran Cortilla, Cody Holck, and Zach Ward were named to the 2015-16 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Golf Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.
Cortilla, a freshman from Barcelona, Spain, was a model of consistency for the Mustangs over the 2015 fall and 2016 spring seasons with 18-hole scoring averages of 76.5 in the fall and 76.6 in the spring for an overall average of 76.6. Cortilla carded a 70 to share individual medalist honors at GPAC Qualifier #4 and finished second, just one stroke out of first place, in the final individual standings from the four GPAC Qualifier tourneys with a score of eight-over par 291.
Cortilla had the Mustangs’ top individual score of the season with a 68 on March 13 at the Keiser Invitational in Lake Worth, Fla.
Holck, a freshman from Ankeny, Iowa, had scoring averages of 77.5 in the fall and 76.3 in the spring for an overall average of 76.8. His low scores of the season were 73s at the Northwestern Invitational and GPAC Qualifier #4.
Ward, a sophomore from Waterloo, Iowa, averaged 76.0 in the fall and 76.5 in the spring to lead the Mustangs with an overall average of 76.3. Ward finished in the top 10 in the final GPAC Qualifier scoring with 302 strokes for eighth place. Ward had the Mustangs’ top individual score of the fall season with a 70 on Sept. 21 at the Morningside Invitational.
Morningside finished in a tie for third place with a score of 1214 at the four GPAC Qualifier tournaments.
