Zach Ward, a junior from Waterloo, Iowa, and Anjana Cordes, a freshman from Bad Vilbel, Germany, have been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s and Women’s Golfer of the Week for Sept. 12-18.

Ward was the individual medalist at last week’s Ottawa Invitational with a three-under par 141 to win medalist honors by a five-stroke margin over teammate Matt McGhee. He had the top individual score both days of the tournament when he carded a one-under par 71 in the opening round and finished with a two-under par 70 in the final round. Ward’s exploits helped lead Morningside to the team championship by a 12-stroke margin over runner-up Kansas City Kansas Community College and lower his team-leading scoring average to 73.2.

Cordes was the Mustangs’ top individual performer at both of their tournaments last week, including the Briar Cliff Lila Frommelt Classic when she helped Morningside successfully defend its team championship with a 14-stroke victory margin over runner-up Briar Cliff. Cordes shot a 78 in each round of the Lila Frommelt Classic to finish tied for second place in the individual standings. Her opening round 78 helped the Mustangs tie their school record for low team score with a 323. Cordes led Morningside with an eighth place individual finish at the Ottawa Invitational with rounds of 78 and 83 to help lead the Mustangs to a second place finish in the team standings. Cordes leads the Mustangs with an 80.2-stroke scoring average.
