Mustangs sweep GPAC Player of the Week honors
Nathan DeChaine and Taylor Daas were named the GPAC baseball and softball players of the week.
Morningside College athletes swept the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Baseball and Softball Player of the Week honors for April 13-19.
Nathan DeChaine, a freshman third baseman from Brainerd, Minn., was named the GPAC Baseball Player of the Week and Taylor Daas, a senior second baseman from New Brighton, Minn., was named the GPAC Softball Player of the Week.
DeChaine had eight hits in 12 at-bats for a .667 batting average with seven RBIs in the Mustangs’ three games. Five of his hits went for extra bases with four doubles and one home run. He went three-for-four with a double and four RBIs to help lead the Mustangs to a 12-2 non-conference win against Briar Cliff University and went five-for-eight with three doubles, a home run, and three RBIs in a doubleheader split with Nebraska Wesleyan University. DeChaine is hitting .326 for the season and has collected at least two hits in each of the Mustangs’ last four games.
Daas had seven hits in nine at-bats for a .778 batting average with eight RBIs in her three games last week. Four of her hits went for extra bases with two doubles and two home runs. Daas went six-for-eight with two doubles, two home runs, and eight RBIs to lead the Mustangs to a doubleheader sweep of GPAC rival Dakota Wesleyan University.
