Mustangs sweep GPAC tennis honors
Bernardo Cadario and Aileen Fuchs are the GPAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week
Bernardo Cadario, a freshman from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and Aileen Fuchs, a freshman from Munster, Germany, have been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week for April 4-10.
Cadario helped lead the Mustangs to a 5-4 victory against Doane College last Saturday in Sioux City when he defeated Ignacio Morell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles and combined with Pedro Pinassi, a freshman from Sau Paulo, Brazil, for a 9-8 (7-5) triumph at No. 2 doubles.
Cadario improved his season’s singles record to 5-7.
Fuchs did not lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Ellie Bender at No. 1 singles in the Mustangs’ 8-1 victory against Doane in last Saturday’s women’s dual in Sioux City. Fuchs also contributed to a Morningside victory at No. 2 doubles, where she combined with Megan Carlson, a junior from Cherokee, Iowa, for an 8-2 win.
Fuchs has an 11-1 singles record to lead the Mustangs in victories. She is undefeated in doubles competition with a 6-0 record with Carlson and a 3-0 record with Anna Tussing, a freshman from Lincoln, Neb.
