Kyle Nikkel and Ashlynn Muhl were named the GPAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Kyle Nikkel, a 6-6 senior center from Pella, Iowa, and Ashlynn Muhl, a 6-0 senior forward from Minneota, Minn., have been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s and Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for Feb. 16-22.

Nikkel went for a pair of double-doubles last week with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the Mustangs’ 77-74 victory against Briar Cliff University and with 13 points and 11 rebounds in last Saturday’s 90-84 triumph against Concordia University. Nikkel’s exploits helped the Mustangs extend their winning streak to 12 games and finish with a 17-3 record in the GPAC to share the league’s regular season championship with Dakota Wesleyan University.

Muhl posted her 13th double-double of the season with game-high totals of 17 points and 14 rebounds to help lead Morningside to a 75-66 victory against Briar Cliff and had eight points and a game-high nine rebounds in a 77-76 win against Concordia that enabled the No. 1-ranked Mustangs to finish the regular season undefeated at 30-0.
