Rachel Koch, a junior shortstop-outfielder from Denison, Iowa, has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Softball Player of the Week and Aubrey Voboril, a senior pitcher from Wahoo, Neb., has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for April 4-10.

Koch hit .571 with three doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 12 RBIs in the Mustangs’ six contests. She went three-for-four with three home runs and seven RBIs in a 10-8 victory against Concordia University in the first game of last Saturday’s GPAC doubleheader. Koch provided the game winning hit when she blasted a grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally the Mustangs from an 8-6 deficit. Koch had five hits in seven at-bats in the doubleheader split with Concordia and went four-for-six to lead the Mustangs to a sweep in their April 5 doubleheader against Mount Marty.

Voboril had a 2-0 record with one save and a 2.33 earned run average in four appearances. She twirled an abbreviated two-hit shutout with a season’s high 14 strikeouts when the Mustangs defeated Mount Marty 8-0 in six innings. Voboril allowed two runs on five hits in a 9-2 win in the first game of last Thursday’s doubleheader at Dakota Wesleyan University and picked up a save in the Mustangs’ 5-1 triumph in the nightcap after she entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with no outs and two runners on base.

Morningside has a 30-6 record and is tied with Doane College stop the GPAC standings with a 9-1 league mark heading into a Wednesday league doubleheader at city rival Briar Cliff University.
