Mustangs to open World Series against Webber International
Morningside and Webber International will open the NAIA Softball World Series with a 10 a.m. game on Friday, May 27.
Morningside College will face Webber International University to open the 2016 NAIA Softball World Series in the first game of the tournament at 10 a.m. Friday, May 27, at the Elizabeth and Irving F. Jensen Softball Complex on the Morningside campus.
Morningside, this year’s regular season and post-season tournament champion of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), will enter the NAIA Softball World Series with a 47-8 record and a No. 15 NAIA national ranking. The Mustangs claimed their spot in the 10-team double-elimination NAIA World Series with an 8-5 victory against the University of Great Falls to win the Morningside Bracket of the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round. The Mustangs have won a school-record 47 games and are riding an eight-game winning streak.
Unranked Webber International punched its NAIA World Series ticket by winning the Reinhardt Bracket of the Opening Round with a 7-4 victory against William Carey University. The Warriors were the runner-up in the Sun Conference during the regular season before they won the league’s post-season tournament. Webber International has a six-game winning streak and a 9-1 record over the last 10 games.
The winner of the Morningside/Webber International game will face two-time defending NAIA National Champion Auburn University-Montgomery on Saturday, May 28, at 4 p.m.
