The Mustangs have the top GPA among the NAIA’s wrestling teams.

Morningside College had the top team grade point average (GPA) among wrestling teams in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) according to a list released by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
The Mustangs topped the NAIA with a cumulative team GPA of 3.3073, edging Benedictine College, which had a team GPA of 3.3068.
Morningside’s Steven Garcia and Dakota Drenth were each named to the NWCA’s NAIA All-Academic Team. Garcia, a sophomore from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, is majoring in integrated community service. Drenth, a freshman from Hartley, Iowa, is majoring in elementary education.
Wrestlers named to the all-academic team must have at least a 3.25 GPA and be a 2016 NAIA National Championships qualifier or have a 3.00 GPA and have earned All-America honors at the 2016 NAIA National Championships.
