Mustangs climb to No. 5
Morningside is ranked fifth in the final regular season NAIA II men’s basketball rankings.
Morningside is ranked fifth in the nation in the final regular season NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll released on Feb. 28.
The Mustangs moved up one spot after they were sixth in the previous poll. The Mustangs will take a 26-6 record and a seven-game winning streak into the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship on March 7-13 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Mustangs will face unranked Trinity International University in a first round game at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 8.
Morningside won the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) regular season championship with a 14-4 league record and the GPAC Post-Season Tournament Championship with an 80-76 victory against Northwestern College to win both titles in the same season for the first time in school history.
Morningside is one of four teams from the GPAC ranked in the NAIA II Top 25. Aside from Morningside, Northwestern is ranked 10th, Briar Cliff University is 11th and Dakota Wesleyan University is 20th.
