SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside College’s football program continued its mainstay residence on the Great Plains Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, released Monday, Oct. 15, for Oct. 8-14.

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside College’s football program continued its mainstay residence on the Great Plains Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, released Monday, Oct. 15, for Oct. 8-14.

Senior wide receiver Connor Niles (Sioux City, Iowa) was credited as the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Niles and the Mustangs’ offense ran roughshod over Doane in a 69-7 win Oct. 12 with the senior standout hauling in 288 yards on 11 receptions with four of those going for touchdowns. He’s currently the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ leader in receiving yards; total scoring; touchdowns per game; all-purpose yards and all-purpose yards per game.

Senior placekicker Jared Amundson (Sioux City, Iowa) registered his second GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player of the Week honor. Amundson was part of 15 points in the Homecoming 2018 victory at Elwood Olsen Stadium, going two-for-two in field goals and nine-for-nine in extra points. He didn’t make things easy on the Tigers’ special teams return unit, drilling nine kickoffs to the tune of 550 total yards, good for a stratospheric average of better than 61 yards per attempt.
