O’Neill named GPAC Player of the Week
Steve O’Neill earned GPAC Player of the Week honors after his back-to-back 25 point games against Dakota Wesleyan and Nebraska Wesleyan.
Steve O’Neill, a 6-0 senior guard from Council Bluffs, Iowa, has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 26 to Feb. 1.
O’Neill had back-to-back 25-point games to help lead Morningside to an 80-74 victory against fourth-ranked Dakota Wesleyan University and a 106-85 triumph against Nebraska Wesleyan University. He made 16 of 28 field goal attempts, six of 12 3-point field goal attempts, and 12 of 13 free throw attempts in the two victories. Aside from his 25 points, O’Neill also dealt seven assists in the Nebraska Wesleyan game to match his career high.
O’Neill, who received the GPAC Player of the Week award for the second time this season, is the Mustangs’ leading scorer with an average of 18.1 points per game. He has been the Mustangs’ top scorer in 10 of their 22 contests and has a team-high eight scoring performances of 20 points or more.
He is the 31st leading scorer in Morningside history with 933 career points.
