YANKTON, S.D. – The senior tandem of Allison Higgins (Jefferson, Iowa) and Anthony Patton (Lincoln, Neb.) turned in low individual finishes for Morningside College Saturday, Oct. 20.
Competing in the program’s final pre-Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships competition, head coach David Nash’s men’s and women’s teams each took fifth at the Mount Marty Lancer Invitational. Higgins remained the model of consistency for the women’s squad, placing among the top three for a fourth straight event, and Patton, turning in a 19th-place mark for the men, was the team’s top finisher for a third successive appearance.
Senior Cassie Werner (Council Bluffs, Iowa), winding up 22nd, and sophomore Connor Ritz (Sioux City, Iowa), taking 21st, were next in line individually for the Mustangs. MC’s men, totaling 163 points, were just eight points behind Wayne State College of Nebraska for fourth, and the women, scoring 129, trailed Dickinson State of North Dakota by only seven for a similar slot.
Nash’s teams break from competition until Saturday, Nov. 3. They aim for individual and team accolades that day at the 2018 GPAC meet hosted by Midland University in Fremont, Neb.
