Poet David Allan Evans, retired South Dakota poet laureate, will present a reading of his poems at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 in UPS Auditorium, which is located in Morningside College’s Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

Evans, a 1962 Morningside College graduate, is the author of nine collections of poems and three books of prose – including a memoir about growing up in Sioux City – and the editor of three other books.

His writing has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Bush Artist Foundation in St. Paul, Minn. He has twice been appointed a Fulbright Scholar to China. For 39 years, Evans was a professor of English at South Dakota State University. He was appointed poet laureate of South Dakota in 2002 and retired from that post earlier this year.
