Professor discusses his book at national conference
Bruce Forbes, professor of religious studies, recently attended the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion in Boston, Mass., and participated in a session on his co-edited book “Religion and Popular Culture in America.”
Bruce Forbes, professor of religious studies at Morningside College, recently attended the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion in Boston, Mass., and participated in a session on his co-edited book “Religion and Popular Culture in America.”
The session included four commenters and responses by Forbes and Jeffrey Mahan, his co-editor. The recently published third edition of the book is a collection of essays about religion in popular culture, popular culture in religion, popular culture as religion, and religion and popular culture in dialogue.
Forbes also is the author of “Christmas: A Candid History,” “America’s Favorite Holidays: Candid Histories” and numerous articles and book chapters. He holds a master’s degree in theology and a doctorate in the history of American Christianity. He is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church.
