Jan D. Hodge, professor emeritus of English, will have his shaped poems on display at Morningside College Tuesday, March 14, through Thursday, March 30, in Eppley Art Gallery in the Eppley Fine Arts Building.

Jan D. Hodge, professor emeritus of English at Morningside College, will have his shaped poems on display at Morningside College Tuesday, March 14, through Thursday, March 30, in Eppley Art Gallery in the Eppley Fine Arts Building, 3625 Garretson Ave.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Eppley Art Gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hodge will give a reading and discussion of his poems at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 23, in the Helen Levitt Art Gallery in the Eppley Fine Arts Building.

Hodge taught at Morningside College from 1967 to 1997, except for the two years during which he returned to graduate school. He started writing poetry while working on his dissertation on Charles Dickens. He has been described as “the master par excellence of carmina figurata” [shaped poems] by the editor of The North American Review.
